I wrote about how I dislike the slide into Autumn/Winter in my post “Autumn” last year so I won’t go into all that again (spoiler alert: I don’t like it). However, I did manage better last year with extra vitamin D so I’ll be doing that again. I have already doubled what I take in the summer and will double it again after the autumn equinox.
Normally when I write a post I lead with text and use photos to illustrate it but I have been really struggling to get this one going so I have decided to lead with the photos and write what’s happening in them. We’ll see how that goes I guess ¯\_(ツ)_/¯
Anyway, this is what happened in August.
Obviously the big news early on was the partial eclipse, my pictures of the actual eclipse are very mid so I won't bore you with those but this is where I went to view it from. It's only a couple of miles or so from the village where I live and turned out to be a popular viewing spot.
I managed to catch a small sun dog and look at all the cars! It was quite busy up there. I have to say as well that it baking hot until well into the evening.
Since the heatwave ended the weather has done a complete 180 and it has been very overcast every day. Some days though there are massive, dramatic clouds promising (and delivering) later rain.
There is a damson tree which overhangs the bottom of my garden. It is wild and unkempt. It hasn't been pruned in years and half of it is dead. Most years it produces a couple of tiny fruits that the wasps get. Once years ago I got a couple of damsons from it and they were as bitter as galls. This photo represents a bumper crop as this tree goes and the fruit was actually delicious.
I gave myself a haircut! A real proper haircut rather than just a trim off the ends. For years now my hair has been all of a length and I've had to wear it up all the time or it just hung limply like heavy curtains. It is rather thick and quite a pain in the backside to do anything with. I have a bunch of different shag type haircuts pinned to my Currents (it's the ATProto version of Pinterest and loads better imo) board and really wanted that kind of look. So armed with the knowledge gleaned from a couple of youtube videos I took the scissors to it. I'm really pleased with how it came out and I can wear it loose again.
I have been adding to my collection of mid century kitchenalia, I like to rummage about on eBay and have a couple of saved searches on there. As well as the above jars (that flour jar was an absolute bargain btw) I have a brown glass salt jar, a couple of smoked glass measuring jugs and have added to my stash of smoked glass drinking glasses. I've a couple more things in my watch list and am hoping the sellers send me a lil' discount offer.

The sun sets earlier and earlier le sigh. Also, the peace lily continues to flower, I can't believe how many flowers it's had this year after two decades of nothing.
